It is the beginning of the year. As ever, the beginning starts with a little something known as the January Blues. This is where people, having now come down from the buzz of the holiday spirit, find themselves feeling extra depressed at the prospect of another year.
January shouldn’t be a time to be blue It should be a time to be optimistic and look forward to the unknown, time to have a bit of fun by planning trips or even playing a few games of Cheeky Bingo Cheeky Bingo. If you are having trouble keeping your thoughts happy and positive though, glance away from browsing online catalogues for diamond rings and the latest gadgets and ponder what will make you happy again.
Smiling is contagious. How often have you managed to not smile when someone smiles at you? Unless you are in a particularly foul mood it will happen. Who knows, if you smile, maybe the person who walks past you will too, who will then pass it to the next person, who smiles at a stranger on the train, who will pass it to someone on the platform who will take it out onto the streets. Smiling goes a long way towards cheering everyone up.
Exercise is thought to help release ‘feel good’ chemicals in your body that improve your mood. I wouldn’t blame you for being sceptical of this if you don’t enjoy working out. Exercise can feel like an unnecessary effort. It will make you feel better about yourself though, especially after the over indulgence of Christmas.
Don’t be too harsh and allow yourself a few victory’s January is often the best time for us to disappoint ourselves. We make new year resolutions and within days we have broken them. This leads to depression because we lost our will power so quickly, and optimism goes out the window. Treat yourself every time you feel a little down to boost yourself back up. Buy yourself that bangle you wanted or the shoes you’ve had your eyes on.
Above all else, remember things can always be worse. Happy January everyone!

Now that it’s March the blue’s are on the way out.
I agree about exercise making you fell good. I love to workout and always feel great afterwards. :)
You had some very good and true thoughts…now if we can all follow through!
