I had never seen or used a clip free curling iron prior to this FlatIron Experts product review. I was interested in seeing how this would work for me. The first thing that caught my eye with this KQC iStick Tourmaline styling iron is the timing. It takes half the time to heat up and style than my clip styling iron. This busy mimi loves quick and easy to use products.
I took everything out of the package and plugged the iron up. I wanted a fast style before heading to the supermarket so this came on a great day. I wrapped my hair around the barrel and used my gloved hand to hold my hair in place for about 4 second. The glove does come with the iron. The curls were fabulous. There weren’t any lines in my hair like clip curling irons leave. Having spiffied up the front of my hair in literally seconds I was ready to try the back. That didn’t go so well. I can’t turn certain ways due to all of the metal rods and otherwise in my back so I couldn’t hold my hair in place with this iron. With a clip iron I have more luck in trying to curl the back of my hair. I can bring my hair to the front to wrap it around and finish wrapping to the back more easily one handed with the clip iron. So for the back of my hair I have had to continue using my ceramic clip iron. And of course that is just due to the back surgery I’ve had.
The only complaint I have with this iron (and it’s easily remedied by applying a nice gel after washing my hair and prior to curling), is that I get more static electricity than usual in my hair which I think is caused by the glove. I have super thin hair and in the winter I have static electricity really bad. REALLY BAD! Even a clip iron will cause it although I don’t think it’s quite as bad. I plan to wash the glove today and rinse it in Downy to see if that will prevent some of the static electricity on days I don’t want to apply a gel. This would not prevent me from buying this product. I can’t stress enough just how fast it is to curl my hair with this iron.
What I think about the product is that if you are looking for a styling iron that does not leave a crease in your hair, and if you are on the go like I am, and of course switching to ceramic over metal is highly recommended due to hair damage, this product would be exactly what you need. It comes in a really nice heavy card-stock type container to store the iron in. This does get super hot so you can’t put it away until it cools off. My hair is softer after using this, I don’t don’t have any frizz at all, it has a nice long cord so I can move around when I’m styling my hair (swivel cord) and of course like I mentioned, it’s a time saver. It has a low and a high heat setting. These irons run around $150 but you can catch it on sale right now for $108.99 (plus free shipping) at FlatIron Experts. I don’t know how long the sale will continue, but as of right now, November 17th, 2012, 9:30 am EST, it is still going on. I feel the need to stress the date and time because when I find products on sale and mention them, 6 months down the road when someone stumbles on the post and the sale is no longer active, I get some rather rude emails because they have to pay full price for the items. Don’t delay. Sales are only meant to last for a certain period of time, or while supplies last.
