Get your Flu and Pneumonia Shot, just do!

I’m going to play nursie nurse here for a few. Old habits die hard and even though I’m a stay at home procrastinator now I want to remind everyone to get your flu and pneumonia shot. In the past 4 months we have lost three family members. My papa in April, his sister last month and this week, his sisters daughter (cancer). We can’t seem to get a break no matter which way we turn.

My papa’s death was hard on everyone. I don’t know if my family will ever be the same again. We miss him and my mom has grieved herself beyond anything you nor I can imagine. There is such a void in her life that we can’t seem to fill. Papa caught pneumonia last winter and they couldn’t get rid of it. He was in and out of the hospital until March. He didn’t come home after that admittance. He was in the hospital for over a month and they transferred him as a last hope to a bigger hospital. He passed away there three days later.

If you happen to catch the flu, it can lead to pneumonia. That’s why I also suggest the flu shot. I get one every year and I’ve never had a reaction to one. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard people say that the flu shot makes them sick. Maybe they had a little virus BEFORE they had the shot but the fact of the matter is that the flu shot is a DEAD virus. You will not be injected with a live virus if you take a flu shot. The flu shot can protect you from the flu or make your symptoms milder. It can save your life. I don’t want anything to happen to any of you and I really hope you consider taking a flu shot this year. It takes mere seconds to get the shot. I got my flu shot while shopping IN Walmart last year. The year before I got mine while shopping IN Walgreens. You can just about get your shot everywhere these days so there is no reason not to protect yourself.

  1. Thank you for posting this blog post- The influenza vaccine is an important health topic that needs to be discussed more often and often among friends and family. Vaccines save lives, but only when they are used, and used by many. If you’re looking for more information on the flu shot, or stories from people who are big advocates of the the immunization, check out It’s a great organization that I’m proud to know.

I always mean to get one but with a new baby in the house we will all need to get one before her arrival in 3 weeks. Thanks for the reminder! Now on my to do list.

  3. Thanks for the reminder, Terri! I am guilty of procrastinating too. You are so right – there is totallyt no reason not to protect yourself.

Firstly, I am terribly sorry to hear of the losses you have had. I hope your family is comforted. This post comes at such a good time though. Today I went to the hospital with my mother in law, and we were discussing flu and pneumonia shots after the nurse asked her! Now, we all know there is controversy around the shot, and I promised to do my own research on it. I have not had one in a while. I even saw an ad tonight at Publix about it! I guess this is a sign.
